Pre-SMR Trainee Meeting
For the second time, we are excited to bring together a group of trainees who are passionate about melanoma research and will form the nucleus of our future leadership. Towards this end, we are organizing a Pre-SMR training meeting. This will provide a unique opportunity for young scientists to meet and discuss recent advancements in melanoma research and present their work amongst peers. Our goal is to bring together trainees from all over the world and provide a platform for young researchers to network and integrate into the broader melanoma community.
Outline:
The meeting will occur from 9am-4pm just prior to the opening plenary session of the main SMR meeting. It will be organized as a series of talks from trainees. Attendance will be limited to maximize interaction (50 trainees + 10 PIs). We will have 15-20 individual slots for 10-minute oral presentations (selected by the organizing committee). There will also be a lunch workshop and the possibility to chat with PIs. We will prioritize applicants who come from countries not historically well-represented at SMR meetings.
As an added bonus, the SMR Executive Committee has agreed to have the 3 top oral presentations from the Trainee meeting give talks at the main SMR meeting over the following days. These will be voted upon by the trainees themselves. This is a great opportunity to further showcase all of the amazing melanoma research being done by the students and postdocs.
How to register:
Registration is easy. When you register for the main meeting, you will be asked if you want to participate in the Trainee Meeting. To attend the Trainee meeting, you must also attend the main meeting. We will limit registration to 50 people for this meeting to maximize the interactions between everyone. We will charge a small $25 fee for this. We also encourage you to apply for participation grants available from SMR.

After you register, we will contact you to send us your abstract, from which the organizers will select to give talks during the Trainee session. We will all vote at the end of the session to pick the top 3 talks which will then be presented at the main SMR meeting.
Schedule:
Morning session (9 AM – 12 PM): 10 talks (10 minutes each + 2 minutes for questions)
Lunch workshop (12 PM – 1 PM): Lunch provided by SMR, workshop
Afternoon session (1 PM – 3 PM): 10 talks (10 minutes each + 2 minutes for questions)
